The loneliness epidemic has had its effect on many different groups of people, but perhaps more prominently, it has plagued the elderly community. One U.K. study suggests that loneliness in elders can lead to an early death.
A church in Minnesota told its older members old to worship elsewhere while the church shifts its focus toward young families. If they want to come back to the church, they can reapply for membership in two years, a memo sent out to the congregation said.
America is getting older. In 1950, near the beginning of the Baby Boom era, the average life expectancy of Americans was 68. Today, it is 79. By the year 2040, one in five Americans will be over the traditional retirement age of 65.
