4th of July

A Fourth of July-themed Hobby Lobby newspaper advertisement that cited a Bible verse and said the United States was “One Nation Under God" was met by mixed reactions over the weekend.

This July 4th, The United States of America will celebrate its 245th year. This July 4th also marks the 45th anniversary of the Israeli rescue mission of 248 civilians who were passengers on an Israel-bound plane that was hijacked by Arab terrorists.

On this Fourth of July, as you’re celebrating the independence of our nation with your loved ones, I hope you will remember that we have the opportunity to choose how we pursue happiness. I pray that you choose to pursue a lasting joy. God is the sole source of a happiness that no person or government could ever provide.

Fromer NFL coach Tony Dungy took to Twitter over the weekend to express his gratitude for America. His comments ultimately lead to widespread debate over whether the Fourth of July should be celebrated.

The Fourth of July is a joyous summer celebration with fireworks and lots of food, an opportunity to have fun outdoors with family and friends. It is also a celebration of America, the land of the free. It is our most patriotic feast.

From lobster races in Maine to a golf cart parade on Catalina Island and a lumberjack competition in Pennsylvania, Americans spent yesterday celebrating our nation’s independence. President Trump, speaking before the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, declared: “We will never forget that we are Americans and the future belongs to us. The future belongs to the brave, the strong, the proud and the free.”

Tomorrow is the anniversary of the day America declared her independence from Great Britain... Or is it?

Cities across America are getting ready for this week’s July Fourth celebrations. Near my neighborhood, the Dallas suburb of Addison (with nineteen thousand residents) is expecting 500,000 people for its fireworks show. Cities from New York to Los Angeles are preparing for spectacular parades. None are likely to resemble the parades with which June’s “Pride” month ended. A Washington Post headline calls last Sunday’s pride parade in New York City “one of [the] largest in [the] movement’s history.”
