The United States ambassador to Spain recently met with a group of Muslim immigrants in one of the most Islamized neighborhoods in Barcelona. Ambassador Alan Solomont told the Muslims the U.S. is not an "enemy of Islam" and that President Obama wants to improve America's image in the Middle East as quickly as possible by "closing the dark chapters" of the U.S. invasion of Iraq and the war in Afghanistan.
"These are things the United States has done badly," said our ambassador. "But now the Obama government wants to improve relations with Muslims," he promised.
How do you think that will be taken by our enemies? As weakness. And it will be seen as an invitation to kill more of us. What about an apology from the Muslim world for 9/11? Anyone heard that? I haven't. How about an apology for all the dead Israeli civilians Muslims have killed through aggressive war and terrorist attacks? No apologies, either, for the killing of schoolchildren or journalists.
Why are we apologizing? We're the ones who were attacked. And we will be again with this attitude.
I'm Cal Thomas in Washington.
