It's Inauguration Day and President Obama begins the first day of his second and last term in office.
The excitement from four years ago has greatly diminished. Why do you suppose that is? A large part of it has to do with the misplaced faith too many put in government leaders and especially in this president. He was treated as a messianic figure by the media and too many others. He was somehow by the force of his personality going to be able to out-perform every politician who has ever lived. No one could have lived up to those expectations and this president certainly did not.
So what's next? Now that the truth is out that if this president isn't a socialist, he certainly gives a very good impression of one, watch for him to ratchet up the "government-is-your-savior" line and impose even more liberal policies through intimidation of Republicans, more class warfare, even higher taxes and regulations, and a petulant, uncooperative spirit.
Let's hope Republicans can find a leader to help lead us out of this mess and debt.
I'm Cal Thomas in Washington.
