A Birthday and a Bright Future

Today is my birthday. I won't tell you the number. Maybe I will start doing what Ronald Reagan did. He counted anniversaries of his 39th birthday.

I used to look back on the previous year every December 2, but now I look forward, because I can't change the past. The future depends on where you are headed. It's not about the next election. It's about whether we are among the elect. If your faith is in the next election and its outcome, you will be disappointed at some level no matter who wins. Hasn't it always been so? Look to the immediate past. See any perfect presidents?

If we are in Christ and He is in us, then our future could not be brighter. No matter how many years we live on this earth, we get to live forever with Him. No more aging bodies, no more hurt, no more disappointment with family members or ourselves.

So, on this birthday, that is what I am looking forward to, and I thank Jesus for making it all possible, not because of a human birthday, but because of my born-again day.

I'm Cal Thomas in Washington.
