Carrie Underwood turned 38 and decided the best way to celebrate was to release her rendition of the classic Christian hymn “Nothing but the Blood of Jesus”.

Underwood shared in a video posted to her Instagram that the song’s release was a gift to her fans.

The award winning country singer added that she wanted to liven up the song by adding harmonies and working with NeedToBreathe's lead singer to make it more "modern" and "current," according to The Christian Post.

The song will be on Underwood’s new Gospel album titled My Savior. While the song has already been released, the rest of the album will come out just before Easter and will include other hymns such as “Great Is Thy Faithfulness”, “The Old Rugged Cross”, and “Amazing Grace”.

The album will also include "Softly and Tenderly" which will be sung as a duet with CeCe Winans, who is known for Alabaster Box. The two will also sing "Great Is Thy Faithfulness" together.

According to a Good Morning America article published on Yahoo News, Underwood shared that her My Savior album is a companion to her Christmas album.

She also said that she enjoyed making music again. Underwood reportedly told Good Morning America, "When I was making this music, I felt like my soul was in such a great place, I wanted to keep making music like the music off of My Gift. She also said of her album, "It's just been such a blessing to make music like this, music that is near and dear to my heart. I hope you guys enjoy listening to it as much as I loved making it."

Underwood has released Christian music in the past, with the most popular songs being "Jesus, Take the Wheel" and "Something in the Water." She also sang a duet with John Legend titled "Hallelujah."

The songs on the upcoming album will reportedly be songs she sang in childhood.
