The conventional wisdom about abortion and gender took a major blow on Election Day when 13 new pro-life women were elected to the U.S. House of Representatives – doubling the number of women in the chamber who oppose legalized abortion.
The pro-life organization Susan B. Anthony List celebrated the news on social media and in a news release, saying it represented a “surge of pro-life women elected to Congress.”
All 11 pro-life women incumbents won re-election, while 13 new pro-life women won their races, too, meaning at least 24 women who oppose legalized abortion will take the oath when the new Congress begins in January, Susan B. Anthony List reported. All 24 are Republican.
And that number could grow: eight pro-life women as of Wednesday were in races that had not been called.
Seven of the 13 new pro-life women flipped seats previously held by Democrats.
“The surge of victorious pro-life women candidates in the U.S. House is a stunning blow to Nancy Pelosi and her pro-abortion agenda,” said Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “... “This is a resounding victory for pro-life women everywhere and an enormous advancement of Susan B. Anthony List’s mission. We expect when all votes are counted and the races are called, we will have a record number of pro-life women serving in the next Congress. These gains are a repudiation of abortion extremism and further evidence that life is a winning issue in politics.”

In the U.S. Senate, three pro-life women won re-election (Wyoming’s Cynthia Lummis, Iowa’s Joni Ernst and West Virginia’s Shelley Moore Capito), while a fourth (Georgia’s Kelly Loeffler) advanced to a runoff.
