An American nurse who was abducted and held for 13 days with her daughter is opening up about her experience and safe return.
Alix Dorsainvil, the nurse, released a statement through the ministry she worked for, El Roi Haiti, CBN's Faithwire reports.
"I am completely humbled by the outpouring of support and prayer for myself and my sweet baby both during and following our time in captivity," Dorsainvil wrote in the statement. "God was so very present in the fire with us and I pray that, when I find the words to tell our story, that the mighty name of Jesus may be glorified and many people will come to know his love."
Dorsainvil was held hostage after being taken from a clinic on the ministry's campus in Port-Au-Prince on July 27. Her abductors demanded a $1 million ransom.
It's unclear how she came about being released, but both she and her daughter were unharmed.
She said a special song pulled her through her ordeal.
"This song, 'See a Victory,' was my battle cry during the most difficult moments," Dorsainvil shared. "There's a part that says, 'You take what the enemy meant for evil, and you turn it for good.' And that is what he is already doing and will continue to do."
"See a Victory" is a song performed by Elevation Worship, released in 2019. The song reached No. 5 on the U.S. Hot Christian Songs chart.
Dorsainvil's abduction triggered protests in Haiti, with many calling for her release.
Friends and family spoke about how she was a beloved volunteer in the community.
El Roi Haiti said Dorsainvil's faith was that of a "remarkably resilient woman whose walk with God guides her deep love for her family and her passionate commitment to the Haitian people."
"We could not be more thankful for the safety of our dear sister, friend, and staff member. Alix is a remarkably resilient woman whose walk with God guides her deep love for her family and her passionate commitment to the Haitian people," El Rio Haiti said in a statement.
"The Bible tells us if we are to boast, we should boast in the Lord (2 Corinthians 10:17). We at El Roi Haiti are delighted to boast of how good our God is as He clearly demonstrated His love, grace, and mercy through so many who stood faithful and firm, championing the plight of Alix and her child until the Lord delivered them both to freedom," the group continued.
