Kirk Cameron Plans to Take Libraries Who Rejected His Book to Court: 'I'm Prepared to Assert My Constitutional Rights'

Kirk Cameron is planning to take legal action against public libraries that recently rejected his request to host a story hour reading of his new children's book, As You Grow.

During an interview with CBN's Faithwire, Cameron said he hopes the libraries will reconsider their decisions on his book, which is about "biblical wisdom" and teaches children how to grow in the fruits of the spirit – gentleness, goodness, joy, kindness, love, peace, patience and self-control.

"Brave Books Publishing and I wrote a letter to some of these libraries, and we're hoping that they'll reconsider," he told the outlet. "We're sending them a free copy of the book. It's theirs to keep, to share with their patrons."

As Christian Headlines previously reported, more than 50 public libraries rejected Cameron's request to host a story hour promoting his book.

"You would think that public libraries would be thrilled for a book that would teach these virtues to children," the "Growing Pains" star said. "We were denied by over fifty woke libraries."

Cameron also asserted that he is prepared to take the matter to court if the libraries continue to uphold their decision, Faithwire reports.

"If they double down on their discrimination and excluding certain viewpoints just because they think that they don't like them, well, then, I told them that I'm prepared to assert my constitutional rights in court," he said. "It's not OK to say 'yes' to drag queen story hours and teach children one kind of value and say 'no' to other community members who would like to have their children taught other values in the same library, in the same room, for the same amount of time as other people are allowed."

"That's called viewpoint discrimination and violating equal access and free speech," he continued.

The Rochambeau Public Library in Providence, Rhode Island, was one of the libraries that rejected Cameron's book and told Brave Books that they would "pass" on the opportunity.

"We are a very queer-friendly library," a staffer said, according to Fox News. "Our messaging does not align.
