The birth of Jesus is one of the main messages of the new season of the Disney+ series, “The Santa Clauses.”
The show features original “The Santa Clause” actor Tim Allen, 70, and his on-screen Mrs. Clause, Elizabeth Mitchell.
In the second episode of the latest season, one of the elves in the North Pole explains the origin of Christmas.
“What we know as Santa,” the elf said, “all began with Saint Nicholas honoring the birth of Jesus.”
The first season also referenced the birth of Christ as the true meaning of Christmas.
In previous interviews, Allen has talked about the importance of including the birth of Christ in the show.
It originally had a lot of otherworldly characters, and ghosts, and goblins,” he said of the Disney+ series. “I said, ‘No, this is Christ-mas. It’s Christ-mas. It literally is a religious holiday. We don’t have to blow trumpets, but I do want you to acknowledge it; that’s what this is about.
“If you want to get into Santa Claus,” the actor continued, “you’re gonna have to go back to history, and it’s all about religion.”
In descriptions for the show, the show also promised to spread a message of the importance of family.
“With his family – Carol, Sandra, and Cal – by his side, and his elves at the reins, Scott Calvin contends with a changing world to keep the spirit of Christmas alive for a new generation.”
The original The Santa Clause was released in 1994, followed by The Santa Clause 2 in 2002 and The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause in 2006.
Allen has talked about his faith journey. When he was 11, his dad was killed by a drunk driver, and he questioned God. He turned to drugs and alcohol, and in 1978, he was convicted of possession of cocaine charge and spent two years in prison.
Even after his prison time, he said he “did not like” the idea of God, but later he gave his life to God.
“I always do ask… The Builder, what did you want me to do?” Allen stated. “And I do ask it. But you got to be prepared for the answer.”
