Christian athlete Tim Tebow recently commented on the controversy over NFL protesters, saying that he supports the right of individuals to stay true to their convictions.
CBN News reports that Tebow, who formerly played in the NFL, is standing behind San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick’s right to kneel during the National Anthem in a protest of racial inequality.
"When people have belief in something, or a conviction in something, trying to stand for that is a good thing,” Tebow stated, although he added that, "It's all about standing for it the right way.”
Tebow himself was known for living out his beliefs on the field as he often knelt to thank God--something that became known as “Tebowing.”
Tebow did, however, decline to comment on whether he supports the issues Kaepernick is protesting.
"I think there's a lot of people who have thoughts out there,'' he said. "And for now, I'm just going to keep mine to myself about it."
Tebow recently left his job as a broadcaster for ESPN when he secured a minor league baseball deal with the New York Mets. He has since begun his baseball career.
