The U.S. Senate confirmed Tom Price as the new secretary of Health and Human Services early this morning.
According to LifeNews.com, Price has a staunch pro-life voting record as a member of Congress and will be involved in the repeal of the Affordable Care Act and its mandate that even Christian businesses and organizations provide healthcare which includes funding for abortions and contraception.
Price was confirmed in a close party line vote (52-47). Senate Democrats attempted to filibuster his confirmation in an effort that continued until 2 a.m. Many of President Donald Trump’s cabinet picks have proved controversial, but thus far, all of them have ended up being confirmed.
After Price’s confirmation, Senate Budget Committee Chairman Mike Enzi stated, “We’re relying on him for a lot of the confirmation on the ‘repeal,’ ‘repair’ and ‘replace.’ He’s the perfect one to do it, he’s a medical doctor that’s had a wide range of experience.”
As a member of Congress, Price has a 100 percent pro-life voting record.
Trump praised Price, noting that he is a “tireless problem solver” and “the go-to expert on healthcare policy.”
“He is exceptionally qualified to shepherd our commitment to repeal and replace Obamacare and bring affordable and accessible healthcare to every American,” Trump continued. “I am proud to nominate him as secretary of Health and Human Services.”
