'Today Was a Happy Day': Girl Hospitalized for 66 Days following Uvalde School Shooting Is Discharged

A little girl who sustained critical injuries in the Uvalde, Texas, school shooting was released from the hospital on Friday after more than two months of hospitalization.

"Today was a happy day at University Hospital! Our final patient from the Uvalde shooting, 10-year-old Mayah Zamora, was discharged!" University Health, a hospital in San Antonio, Texas, tweeted.

"She is our hero, and we can't wait to see all she accomplishes in the future!" the hospital continued.

The video accompanying the tweet shows the hospital staff cheering for Zamora as she handed each of them roses while walking out of the hospital.

According to The Washington Post, Zamora is the last victim to be released from the hospital after the deadly school shooting.

On May 24, an 18-year-old named Salvador Ramos carried out a mass shooting at Robb Elementary School, killing 19 students and two teachers. Ramos was later shot dead by law enforcement. The incident is one of the deadliest school shootings in U.S. history.

Zamora was shot in three limbs.

As reported by Faithwire, Zamora's family set up a GoFundMe account for the little girl while she was treated for her injuries.

"Mayah's family would like to give its most heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has donated. Mayah has a very long road to recovery, and we're going to be with her the entire way. This long road includes numerous surgeries Mayah had undergone, future surgeries she may require, future hospital and doctor's visits, mental health/trauma treatment, amongst many other things," Zamora’s family wrote on the GoFundMe page on June 10.

"Mayah's family is by her side as she receives medical care in San Antonio, about an hour and a half away from Uvalde. This family has left their home to tend to their daughter, this is emotionally, physically and financially taxing. Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated."

As of Thursday, the online fundraiser raised $116,569 out of its $150,000 goal.
