The Foursquare Church has released information about a celebration of life event for pastor and author Jack W. Hayford, who passed away last month at the age of 88.
According to CBN News, a public viewing will be held at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills in Los Angeles, California, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. PST on Tuesday, February 14. Several days later, a memorial service will be held at Shepherd Church on February 18.
Hayford, who served as president of The Foursquare Church and founder of The Church on the Way, or Van Nuys Foursquare Church, in Van Nuys, California, passed away on January 8. He led the church as its senior pastor for over three decades.
"His family said he died peacefully in his sleep in the early hours of the morning, having eaten dinner with his wife, Valarie, and having spoken to one of his grandkids the evening before," The King's University shared in a statement.
Before his death, Hayford shared how much serving the church meant to him.
"I have a shepherd's heart," he said, according to the Foursquare Church's website. "The highlight of my ministry was the pastorate. My heart has always been with the local church."
In addition to ministry, Hayford authored or co-authored over 50 books and composed 500 choruses and hymns, including the popular worship song "Majesty."
Further, Hayford served as the Spirit Filled Life® Bible and the Spirit Filled Life® Commentaries general editor.
In 1997, Hayford founded The King's University – formerly The King's College and Seminary – where he also served as chancellor before Pastor Robert Morris, lead senior pastor of Gateway Church, succeeded him.
Hayford played a significant role in the Promise Keepers men's movement and served as the president of the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel from 2004 to 2009.
