Medical Examiner's Office Rules Dave Hollis' Death an Accidental Fentanyl Overdose

A medical examiner's office has ruled that Dave Hollis, a Christian author and former Disney executive, died of an accidental overdose.

The report comes nearly three months after the sudden death of the 47-year-old, who was also the ex-husband of Rachel Hollis, the author of the popular Girl Wash Your Face book. He died on Feb. 11 at his home in Austin, The Christian Post reports.

According to the autopsy report from the Travis County Medical Examiner's Office, Hollis had lethal amounts of fentanyl, cocaine and alcohol in his system.

The report also notes that Hollis had a history of drug and alcohol abuse, depression, high blood pressure, hypertension, atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease and moderate to severe atherosclerosis in his heart.

Rachel and Hollis were married for 16 years before they divorced in June 2020. They had four children.

Hollis had previously worked for Disney from 2011 to 2018, where he worked on projects such as Frozen and Black Panther. He left Disney to move to Texas and run his wife's company Chic Media.

Hollis was also an author. He wrote Get Out of Your Own WayBuilt Through Courage: Face Your Fears to Live the Life You Were Meant For and a children's book titled Here's to Your Dreams.

In an interview with The Christian Post, Hollis revealed that 2020 was the hardest year of his life, but he said that he eventually became the "strongest" he'd ever been, mentally, emotionally, relationally and spiritually.

"But doing that work, finding a way to step closer to our purpose or honor that intention, is something that requires courage, because it often requires leaving what we've known for what we need; transitioning from who we were to who we're becoming," he said. "That can be uncomfortable both for us and can make the people who have become accustomed to who we've been uncomfortable as we grow into who we were meant to be."
