Netflix has released a trailer for the series adaptation of Anthony Doerr’s Pulitzer Prize-winning book All the Light We Cannot See.

The series will tell the story of Marie-Laure LeBlanc, a blind French girl, and Werner, a German soldier, in the World War II-era city of Saint-Malo.

“In this time of darkness, of invading cities, I’m trying to remember light lasts forever,” LeBlanc says, broadcasting from St. Malo, where she has taken refuge with her father Daniel (Mark Ruffalo) and her reclusive uncle Etienne (Hugh Laurie).

“Darkness lasts not even for one second when you turn on the light. I know that broadcasting could get me executed. But I will not be silenced.”
Meanwhile, Werner is the teenager charged with tracking the illegal broadcasts.

“When I was a child, I was trained to locate radio frequencies,” Wenner explains in the trailer. “The things that I have seen haunt me. Her voice was my escape.” But soon enough, their lives become intertwined more devastatingly as the officer instructs him: “You are going to find her, and you will kill this girl yourself. If you fail, you will die first.”

Meanwhile, the Germans are also trying to locate a legendary diamond that the LeBlancs have in their possession.

Director Shawn Levy (Stranger Things) split Doerr’s novel into a four-part limited series starring Aria Mia Loberti, Mark Ruffalo, Hugh Laurie, and Louis Hoffman.

According to Relevant, the story “emphasizes the importance of kindness, the search for a deeper meaning in life, the need for forgiveness, and the power for sacrificial love.

“Though their stories run parallel to each other, the characters hold on to the hope that ‘the most important light is the light you cannot see.’ Their faith and trust in something greater propel them forward as they navigate a world full of darkness.

All episodes will be released on November 2 on Netflix.
