Texas Principal Who Was Put on Leave after Linking to Christian Website Now Reinstated

A principal in Texas who was put on leave after linking to a Christian website on a school newsletter has returned to work

Imelda Medrano, principal of Seven Leaves Junior High School was placed on leave after she included the link to a Crosswalk.com article entitled “9 Most Dangerous Apps for Kids” that discussed online sexual predators and cyber-bullying.

After Medrano included the link in the school newsletter, the Katy Independent School District sent an e-mail to parents, pointing them to the district’s policy on bullying instead.

“On Friday, January 9, you may have received an eNews containing an article titled ‘9 Most Dangerous Apps for Kids’ which was obtained from a website that had not undergone a thorough review and approval process for content distribution. Please disregard that article and content,” the email read.

Medrano was placed on leave, but was reinstated after community members called for her return through Facebook and an online petition.

Superintend Alton Frailey wrote, “Following an administrative review, I am pleased to share that effective Thursday afternoon, January 22, 2015, Dr. Medrano was reinstated as principal at SLJH.

“I appointed Dr. Medrano to open SLJH in 2012 and since then, she has demonstrated successful leadership capacity at the school. She has my full support and confidence as she continues as principal at SLJH.”
