Joel Osteen Teams Up With 'Survivor' Producer for Reality Show

December 1, 2011

Joel Osteen, pastor of Lakewood Church in Houston, is teaming up with Mark Burnett, the producer of "Survivor," "The Voice" and "The Apprentice" to develop a new reality series with a focus on helping people, the Christian Post reports. Specifics of the show have not been confirmed, but the concept is to show regular people going on mission trips around the U.S. with Osteen to "start fixing things," said Donald Iloff, the Osteens' spokesman, adding that viewers could expect to see "people being a blessing to other people." Iloff said the show would help Osteen and Lakewood Church spread its message: "My hope would be that they would truly see the heart of this ministry. ... This is a legacy of really caring about people." Ed Stetzer, president of LifeWay Research, said he saw no problem with a pastor in a reality show as long as it "shows pastors as real people, the church on a mission, and the pastor can point to the real Gospel."
