On October 6, President Trump ordered U.S. troops to leave the contested area of northeastern Syria. Just three days later, Turkey began an offensive on Syria displacing thousands of Syrians and Kurds living in the region.
Turkey is continuing its offensive on Kurdish-held areas of northern Syria this morning. The BBC reports that at least eleven civilians have died while tens of thousands have fled their homes. The offensive began two days ago after President Trump moved American troops out of the area.
Following his December announcement saying that he would be pulling all U.S. troops out of Syria, President Trump has decided to leave 200 troops in the Middle Eastern country in order to keep the peace.
