The Republican Party has no excuse for its failure to win control of the Senate in this year’s midterm elections. Facing record-high inflation, an unpopular President, and a general malaise across the country, the GOP should have gained control of the Senate, racked up a sizeable majority in the House, and flipped Governorships all across the country. Instead, Democrats remain in control of the Senate, the House majority will be slim at best, and won several Governors’ races that should have gone to the GOP. Like a football team that blew a winnable game, the GOP needs to sit in the film room and figure out what went wrong.

An expected Republican wave slowed to a crawl on Election Day as Democrats defied expectations, leaving the balance of power in the House and Senate up in the air.

Over the weekend, former President Donald Trump won a straw poll at the CPAC, denoting that he is the main frontrunner for GOP for the 2024 presidential election.

On Wednesday, Representative Liz Cheney was voted out of House leadership position by her GOP colleagues. Many of her colleagues have bristled over her vote to impeach Trump for his role in inciting the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol and her public rejection of claims that the election was stolen.

Congressional Republicans are expected to remove Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney from her seat as the House Republican Conference chairwoman, a high-ranking position within the GOP.
