NBC Earns Methodist Praises for Retracting Liquor Ads

A U.S. television network, NBC, has been commended by the top staff executive of the United Methodist social justice agency for reconsidering a previous decision, as reported by the United Methodist News Service.

Jim Winkler of the UM Board of Church and Society advised that NBC's "about face" is a tremendous victory not only for the church board, but also for the many religious, health and children's groups who had protested the earlier announcement that NBC would no longer voluntarily ban commercials for hard liquor.

Now Winkler would like to see the broader issue of beer and wine ads addressed, especially because they are associated with sports events that are viewed by young people.
