A woman whose car caught fire on a Georgia highway last week is thanking God after a good Samaritan helped her extinguish the fire.

Last week, Lincolnton resident Candy Smith was driving to work on Interstate 20 in her 2004 Toyota Camry when her car caught fire. She told WRDW that she was initially unaware that her car was on fire.

"I felt no heat, no warmth. I didn't even have my air on. I felt nothing until I stopped and realized I was on fire," she told the outlet.

A video of the car driving down the road shows the bottom of the vehicle engulfed in flames.

“I turned [the car] off, grabbed my purse, jumped out of the car, barefooted everything,” Smith told local news outlet WRDW on Tuesday. “I Iook, and my hood is melting, and I see flames,” she added.

Moments later, a truck driver named Kalique rushed toward her car with a fire extinguisher.

According to The Christian Post, Smith called the truck driver – who is from North Charleston, South Carolina – her “angel.”

No stranger to tragedy, Smith highlighted that the rescue reminded her of God’s “direct protection she’s experienced through the good and bad.”

Smith previously lost one son in a house fire and another son while waiting for a lung transplant.

“It could have been a lot worse,” Smith said. “Again, God’s faithfulness. God’s timing. And you know, he cleared the road,” she added.

“All I can do is thank Him. Thank You for Your mercy. Thank You for Your grace and for loving me,” she continued.
