Recently, a clip from the new HBO documentary Transhood has caused controversy on social media as the film seeks to normalize transgenderism amongst children, Faithwire reports.
On Monday, Mary Margaret Olohan, a reporter for the Daily Caller, posted a short clip from the film to her Twitter page. In the clip, a biological boy named Phoenix is brought up on stage by his mother during what appears to be a ceremony affirming people's sexual and gender identities.
When asked if there was anything he would like to say, Phoenix, who is dressed in a pink shirt and a rainbow skirt, immediately backs down from proclaiming his gender identity after being handed a microphone.
“I’m a little shy,” the child says to his mother as they stand on stage in front of a small congregation.
“You’re a little shy?” his mother asked. “Do you want to tell everybody if you’re a boy or a girl?”
Phoenix then replied, “I just want to tell them that I’m a girl,” before saying, “I don’t want to do it” as he hands the mic to his mom.
“Ok,” his mom said. “Phoenix would like you to know that she’s a girl and she prefers ‘she’ and ‘her’ pronouns.”
Afterward, Phoenix was handed a pink flower as everyone gathered for the ceremony said in unison, “May you be well, safe, and whole. We honor you exactly as you are.”
Upon seeing the clip, Christians and conservatives were outraged at HBO, with some immediately calling for the platform to be boycotted for featuring the film.
Matt Walsh, host of the Matt Walsh podcast, posted a series of tweets criticizing the film and the streaming platform.
One tweet featured a picture of Phoenix and his mother reading a book called Jacob’s New Dress; a book Walsh called “LGBT propaganda.”
This is from HBO's "Transhood" documentary. A mother puts her 4 year old son in a dress and reads him LGBT propaganda. You're literally watching her brainwash the child into thinking he's a girl. It's no mystery how children end up "trans." This is it. Right here. #BoycottHBO pic.twitter.com/WCVb0BpkYi— Matt Walsh (@MattWalshBlog) November 23, 2020

In another tweet, using the hashtag #BoycottHBO, he criticized the platform for “promoting and normalizing the most horrific forms of child abuse” with Transhood. He also urged people to cancel their subscriptions to HBO.
“The transing of children is the most indefensible thing I can imagine,” he continued “Those who promote it cannot defend it. They know they can’t. So they rely on you to keep silent. Don’t.”

Lila Rose, the founder and president of the pro-life organization Live Action, also lamented the film writing, “This is child abuse. The sexualization of children.”

Pastor Costi Hinn, president and founder of For The Gospel, responded to the clip by saying,” Another massive reason why I want to plant/lead a church & grow old in the pulpit is to preach series after series & book after book of the Bible; seeing people saved, built up on God’s design for life, family, gender, holiness, & more.”
“They’ll need much healing & truth,” he continued.

Transhood, which was released on HBO on Nov. 12, follows four transgender children and their families as the children explore their chosen gender identities. The film follows the children between 2014 and 2019.
“It’s not unusual that kids know [that they are trans] when they are young,” director Sharon Liese told Time Magazine. “People ask me, how do kids know when they are four years old? I quickly realized that is not the question. The question is, how do you not believe them?”
Phoenix, who was 4 years old when the documentary was filmed, first identified as a “girl-boy” before later identifying as a girl, as seen in the clip. According to Faithwire, Phoenix would later return to identifying as a boy at age 7.
Another clip of the documentary was posted on Twitter that showed Phoenix's mom sharing how she regretted identifying her son as a girl, including deleting Facebook memories of him mentioned as a girl and changing pronouns back to “he.”
“Children are not transgender,” she asserts. “He’s a boy. He’s born a boy. He’s always been a boy and will always be a boy.”
She added, “And maybe there are people who actually are, and it’s probably a mental disorder.”
