Lionsgate Acquires Worldwide Distribution Rights for The Chosen

The worldwide distribution rights for the hit Christian television series The Chosen have been acquired by Lionsgate Television.

According to a spokesperson, Lionsgate acquired the distribution rights for all seasons of The Chosen from the show’s creator, director and producer, Dallas Jenkins.

“Lionsgate is perfect for us,” Jenkins said in a statement. “They’re strong and experienced in the areas we’re not, but they also understand what’s unique about us and will protect that. We’ll continue to do what we do best unabated, and they’ll expand our efforts with their tremendous distribution team,” he continued.

The entertainment company, which produced Jesus Revolution, plans to make the acclaimed crowd-funded series available in 600 languages.

“The more I learned about The Chosen, the more I wanted to ensure that it is on the best platforms across the globe. It’s no surprise that an artfully crafted story about such an important historical figure, unlike anything done before, would be in great demand,” said Lionsgate President of Worldwide Television Distribution Jim Packer.

“The multi-season approach has allowed The Chosen to consistently build its audience and generate a unique level of engagement,” he continued. “We’re excited by the opportunity to elevate this incredible property to the next level of worldwide recognition and popularity.”

According to The Christian Post, Jenkins first launched The Chosen in 2019. Since then, the show has been watched by 94 million people and translated into 62 languages.

The show has made $35 million at the box office from special theatrical releases. Its social media pages have amassed some 6.5 million followers.

So far, three seasons of The Chosen have been released. A fourth season is currently in the works.

Actor Jonathan Romue grew to worldwide fame due to his portrayal of Jesus Christ in the hit series. He has even been invited to the Vatican twice to speak with Pope Francis about his portrayal of the son of God.
