Justin, Hailey Bieber Reveal That Their Marriage Almost Fell Apart in the First Year

Pop singer and professing Christian Justin Bieber and his wife, supermodel Haley Bieber, recently revealed on a podcast that they almost ended their marriage its first year.

On Sunday's episode of the In Good Faith with Chelsea & Judah Smith podcast, the Biebers told the Smiths about the rocky start to their marriage.

Hailey, who married Justin in 2018, shared that her husband's mental health struggles, which included him having "out of body experiences," became so overwhelming for her that she thought about throwing in the towel on their marriage.

"I remember I called (my mom) a few different times, one particular time (when) we were in Brooklyn, and I was calling her, crying, and I was like, 'I just can't do it. There's no way that I'm going to be able to do this if it's going to be like this forever'," Hailey explained. "And I just remember she was so calm on the phone, and she was like, 'It's going to pass, you're going to be fine, and he's going to be healthy, and we're here for you."

"But I also just think I was in it. I made a decision. I know for a fact that I've loved this person for a very long time, and now would not be the time to give up on him. I just wouldn't do that to him," Hailey recalled thinking.

During the couple's first year of marriage, Justin was also diagnosed with Lyme disease.

"Imagine abandoning somebody in the middle of the worst time of their life, potentially. I'm not that type of a person," Hailey told the Smiths. "So I was going to stick it out no matter what the outcome was going to be. It was really hard. There were days where I literally was like, 'I don't know if he's going to be okay.' Something really deep down inside of me was like, 'He's going to be through it.' I just didn't know how long it was going to take," she shared.

During the interview, Justin also revealed that he struggled with "rejection issues," and Hailey's commitment to him ultimately strengthened their relationship.

"I think it was just time that healed things, just us showing up for each other every day, being consistent, me seeing that she wasn't going anywhere," the pop singer said. "I think I had a lot of, like, rejection issues, that I had to just fight through, but her just continuously showing up every day and being there for me. I just kept seeing that over and over and over. And it just became more secure and more secure with where we're at in our relationship."

The Biebers currently attend Churchome led by Pastor Judah Smith. During the podcast, Smith regarded Justin and Hailey as "two of my favorite people."

"They are both two of my favorite people. … Family is a bigger priority for us because of you two," Smith told the couple, according to The Christian Post.

"All their fans and admirers around the world are saying, 'Woah, it must be something really special and a big deal to have a family and to love each other and take care of each other and listen and laugh and make memories and watch shows,'" he continued. "And so, family is a bigger priority for us because of you two."

"We walked through this journey of their relationship with them for many years," Chelsea Smith said. "Listening to them talk about the then and the now, their teen selves and the incredible relationship that they've arrived at now, the painful journey that they've endured and stepped out into [is] really incredible to hear about in their own words."
