'Love Your Neighbor': Gavin Newsom Quotes Scripture in Pro-Abortion Billboard Campaign

California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) recently launched a billboard campaign using a Bible verse to support abortion in pro-life states.

Newsom, who's running for reelection this November, posted images of the billboards on social media last Thursday. The signs will be put up in Texas, Oklahoma, Mississippi, and four other states where abortion is restricted or prohibited altogether.

"To any woman seeking an abortion in these anti-freedom states: CA will defend your right to make decisions about your health," Newsom's tweet reads in part.

The Democratic governor also tagged several Republican governors, such as Texas Gov. Gregg Abbott, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine and Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves, in his post of a billboard image that reads: "Need an abortion? California is ready to help."

According to The Christian Post, the billboard includes the latter portion of the greatest commandments found in Mark 12:31, which reads, "Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no greater commandment than these."

One billboard slated to go up in Texas reads, "Texas doesn't own your body." A similar message was created for the Indiana billboard.

The billboards will be displayed in seven pro-life states: Texas, Indiana, Mississippi, Ohio, South Carolina, South Dakota and Oklahoma.

Joy Stockbauer, a policy analyst for the Center for Human Dignity at the Christian conservative advocacy group Family Research Council, called Newsom's reelection campaign "disturbing."

"Governor Newsom's disrespect for the sincerely held religious convictions of Bible-believing Americans is disturbing, but sadly nothing new from far-left extremists within the Democratic Party," Stockbauer told The Christian Post in an email.

"Perhaps Newsom wouldn't be so desperate to draw vulnerable women to California if his actual constituents weren't fleeing the state in droves due to his unwillingness to address the rampant violent crime problem."

After the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in June, Newsom vowed to turn California into an abortion "sanctuary" state. Earlier this month, California lawmakers passed over a dozen bills that would not only expand and protect abortion access but protect abortion providers from criminal prosecution.

As Christian Headlines previously reported, California recently launched a $1 million website promoting the state's abortion services, including those living in other states.
