Florida governor Ron DeSantis officially launched his 2024 presidential bid on Wednesday, promising to lead "our great American comeback."

"Our border is a disaster. Crime infests our cities. The federal government makes it harder for families to make ends meet and the president flounders," DeSantis said in his announcement video.

"Decline is a choice," he continued. "Success is attainable, and freedom is worth fighting for. Righting the ship requires restoring sanity to our society, normalcy to our communities and integrity to our institutions."

"Truth must be our foundation, and common sense can no longer be an uncommon virtue," the governor told viewers while facing the screen.

As The Christian Post reported, DeSantis also cited his record as the governor of Florida.

"In Florida, we proved that it can be done," he said. "We chose facts over fear, education over indoctrination, law and order over rioting and disorder. We held the line when freedom hung in the balance. We showed that we can and must revitalize America."

The ad closed with DeSantis stressing that "we need the courage to lead and the strength to win."

"I'm Ron DeSantis, and I'm running for president to lead our great American comeback," he concluded.

As a Republican candidate, he joins the likes of former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina, former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, and former President Donald Trump.

DeSantis's campaign announcement comes six months after he was reelected to a second term as governor of the Sunshine State. While DeSantis is considered a favorite in the 2024 presidential race, he still trails behind Trump in polling.

According to a RealClearPolitics poll, which sampled the presidential preferences of Republican primary voters from April 28 through May 22, Trump leads with 54.9 percent support, while DeSantis comes in with 20.9 percent.
