We Are Messengers Singer Survives Frightening Crash: 'It's a Miracle That I'm Alive'

The lead singer of the Christian band We Are Messengers is crediting God’s hand of protection for keeping him alive after his truck slid across an interstate median and nearly hit oncoming traffic before flipping on its side.

Darren Mulligan, the lead singer of the Dove Award-nominated band, was traveling to the airport for a concert tour stop last week when he lost control of his truck after it hit some ice on a bridge.

Mulligan shared news of the incident on Instagram.

“My truck lost all traction, slid across both lanes, down through the verge [median] separating east and west highways and began sliding towards another vehicle on the opposite side of the road,” he wrote.

Moments away from hitting an oncoming vehicle, Mulligan said he “did everything” he could to flip his vehicle off the road to ensure he didn’t kill or injure another person. It worked.

“It is a miracle that I’m alive, I’m a little sore, but I walked out of that vehicle without a scratch,” he wrote.

Just 10 seconds before the accident, he said, he “had been talking with Jesus and I said out loud ‘my life has always been in your hands and it still is.’”

“I guess God put that to the test, and He has once again proved Himself unbelievably Kind,” the frontman wrote. “As I scrambled to find my backpack, guitar and phone, which had flown out of the vehicle, I heard a voice. It was a young man called Efrain who was on his way to work. His was the car that was coming the opposite direction.

“Efrain was so kind to me, his only thought was to make sure I was ok. He drove me to the airport so I could go about the work God has called this band to,” he wrote. “... I am a very grateful man, more than ever and I’m convinced this too is the goodness of God in my life.”

Having survived the crash, Mulligan made it to the band’s concert stop in Greeley, Colo.

“The enemy tried to take us out, but we made it to Greely Colorado and played the most wonderful show,” he wrote. “God cannot be stopped, and the Gospel will advance. Thank you to everyone who came out to the show and for all of your prayers. We felt every single one of them last night. Btw, I’m feeling good. So no need to worry, friends.”
