Jesus Revolution Filmmakers Announce New Movie, Ordinary Angels: It's 'Powerful'

The filmmakers behind the faith-based hit movie Jesus Revolution have announced their next project.

The new film, Ordinary Angels, is scheduled for an Oct. 13 theatrical release and will tell the “incredible true story of a struggling hairdresser who single-handedly rallies an entire community to help a widowed father save the life of his critically ill young daughter,” according to Kingdom Story Company, the faith-based company that produced not only Jesus Revolution but also I Can Only Imagine, I Still Believe and Woodlawn.

Lionsgate will release it. Ordinary Angels will star Alan Ritchson (Reacher, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire) and two-time Oscar winner Hilary Swank (Million Dollar Baby, Logan Lucky).

The film is the highest-tested film in the history of Kingdom Story, the company said. (Viewers gave the movie very high ratings during test screenings.)

Jon Gunn (The Case for Christ) directed it. Producers included Kevin Downes, Jon Erwin, and Andrew Erwin.

“The story of Sharon Stevens and the Schmitt family is a powerful reminder that helping others is how we heal ourselves,” Gunn said. “I can’t think of a message I’d rather share with the world right now, and I’m honored to be telling it with such a fearless and talented cast.”

Swank said the film is a “powerful reminder that angels reside everywhere among us” and that faith, hope, grit, and positivity are all powerful fuel for miracles.”

“It’s also a story about the power of organ donation — something incredibly near and dear to my heart,” Swank said. “I couldn’t be more thrilled to be a part of this story and message.”

Said Ritchson, “I'm an optimist. I believe the best in people. I believe that sometimes we just need to be reminded of the power of what we can do together. This is why I was drawn to Ordinary Angels.”

Meanwhile, Jesus Revolution continues to soar at the box office. It remained in the Top 10 in its fourth weekend (No. 7) with an estimated $3.5 million and passed $45 million in total gross. It is the highest-grossing Lionsgate movie since 2019.
