A fifth installment in the God's Not Dead franchise is in the works.
Titled God's Not Dead: Rise Up, the Pure Flix/Pinnacle Peak Pictures movie will tell the story of a pastor who runs for public office against a politician who opposes everything the pastor believes, including religion's role in public policy.
It will begin filming later this year in South Carolina and stars David A.R. White, Dean Cain, Isaiah Washington, Cory Oliver, Ray Wise and Brad Heller. It is scheduled for a 2023 release.
Pure Flix, a subsidiary of Sony Pictures Entertainment, is a faith and family-friendly streaming service.
The 2014 movie God's Not Dead launched the franchise and also shocked Hollywood by opening in the Top 4. It ended its run with a domestic gross of $60 million and remains the sixth highest-grossing Christian movie of all time.
"This is a new chapter in the God's Not Dead franchise, and we can't wait to share this with all the fans," said producer and actor David A.R. White, who plays Pastor Dave Hill in the franchise. "I'm still humbled, eight years later, that this type of movie and this message resonates with so many people. The legacy and impact of God's Not Dead is undeniable, and I'm so proud and honored to be a part of this movement."
The other films in the franchise are God's Not Dead 2 (2016), God's Not Dead: A Light in Darkness (2018) and God's Not Dead: We the People (2021). All four films are available on Pure Flix.
Combined, the franchise has grossed more than $100 million worldwide.
"I've been drawn to faith and family projects, like God's Not Dead, since my son was born. I wanted to be able to bring him to work with me and have him walk away with a positive and uplifting message," said Cain, who starred in the first film and is back for this one. "I'm blessed to come back and be a part of the God's Not Dead legacy – it's such a moving message and challenge to audiences to get them thinking about the difference they can make in their communities and country."
