The star of the Guardians of the Galaxy and Jurassic World franchises says he draws inspiration from the life of Jesus when he is criticized for his beliefs.

Chris Pratt, who portrays Peter Quill/Star-Lord in the Guardians of the Galaxy films and Owen Grady in the Jurassic World movies, acknowledged in an interview with Page Six that he sometimes faces criticism for his Christian faith.

“I sure do but that’s nothing new, that’s nothing new, you know?” Pratt, 43, told Page Six.

Pratt then quoted Jesus’ words in the Bible.

“If I was of this world, they would love me just like that but as it is, I’ve chosen out of this world. That’s John 15:18 through 20,” Pratt added.

“That’s the way it is, nothing new, 2,000 years ago they hated him, too,” he added, referencing Jesus.

Pratt’s faith has made headlines in Hollywood. In 2018, he delivered a speech at the MTV Movie & TV Awards and listed “nine rules” for life – some of which included a discussion of his faith.

“God is real. God loves you. God wants the best for you. Believe that – I do,” Pratt said, listing one of his rules.

“You have a soul. Be careful with it,” he said of another rule.

His speech also referenced Christ’s death on the cross.

“People are going to tell you [that] you’re perfect just the way that you are,” he told the audience. “You’re not. You’re imperfect. You always will be, but there is a powerful force that designed you that way, and if you’re willing to accept that, you will have grace. And grace is a gift. And like the freedom that we enjoy in this country, that grace was paid for with somebody else’s blood.”

In January of this year, he re-posted a video of the speech and said he stood by it.

“Throwback to that time MTV honored me with ‘The Generation Award.’ I was given three minutes to impart wisdom to the next generation,” Pratt wrote. “Given the chance to do it again I wouldn’t change a thing. Except maybe I wouldn’t try to eat the popcorn backstage.”
