The University of Oklahoma softball players said that Jesus is the reason for their joy and freedom ahead of their College World Series championship win.

Team captain Grace Lyons told reporters that “the only way that you can have a joy that doesn’t fade away is from the Lord. Any other type of joy is actually happiness that comes from circumstances and outcomes,” ChurchLeaders.com reports.

The Sooners, Oklahoma's team, defeated Florida State 3-1 in game 2 of the College World Series and earned their third straight championship title.

“Joy from the Lord is really the only thing that can keep you motivated [and] in a good mindset, no matter the outcomes,” she said.

Teammate Jayda Coleman said the team isn’t afraid to lose.

“We wanna win, but it’s not the end of the world [if we lose] because our life is in Christ, and that’s all that matters,” Coleman said.

The team has an “Eye’s Up” strategy where the players point upward.

“We know this game is giving us opportunities to glorify God. Once we figured that out…it’s really changed so much for us,” infielder Alyssa Brito said.

Brito was baptized last year by their teammates.

“This isn’t our home. … We have so much more. We have an eternity of joy with our Father, and I’m so excited about that. No matter what, my sisters in Christ will be there with me in the end, when we’re with our King.”

The Oklahoma softball players have previously said they attend church and chapel together.

Team chaplain Sarah Roberts said on Twitter earlier this month, “The same way Peter and John shared their faith and the same way @OU_Softball shares theirs … is the same way we can share ours: 1) boldness 2) ordinary 3) relationship with Jesus. If you’re a follower of Christ, share Christ wherever God has you!”
