Why Bother with Iran Negotiations?

July 24, 2008

The so-called international community and the American left had pressured the Bush administration to talk to Iran about its nuclear program. Barack Obama says he would negotiate with leaders of regimes like Iran and North Korea. The futility, even stupidity, of such a move was revealed following a meeting with the head of Iran’s nuclear program by the State Department’s William Burns.

The Iranians rejected any and all offers to change their nuclear objectives. President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said yesterday Iran would not yield in pursuit of its nuclear ambitions and any new sanctions would not matter.

The White House said it was still hopeful that Tehran would change its mind. Why should they? These people are nut cases. They believe their god wants everyone who doesn’t agree with their Byzantine religion deserves to die. Ahmadinejad has said he thinks Allah has chosen him to usher in Armageddon so the Islamic messiah will appear. How do you negotiate with that?
