Why Are They the Greatest?

We cant get enough of the greatest generation and thats good. Pearl Harbor, the movie, opens this week. It is expected to draw huge crowds.

The Senate has given final approval for a World War II memorial on the mall in Washington.

Tom Brokaws latest book is out in time for Memorial Day. Its called An Album of Memories: Personal Histories From the Greatest Generation. Its a collection of letters and pictures from World War II vets, their spouses and, in some cases, their children and grandchildren. The book is a great gift for a veteran or anyone who needs to know and appreciate what that generation had and what we can learn from them.

It is good to know the past, especially our own past. There has been an upsurge of books about World War II and more people need to read them and talk to those who remain. Were losing them at the rate of 1,000 per day. They arent called the greatest for nothing. More of us need to find out why.
