What if the Republicans Lose?

November 6, 2006

What should evangelical Christians do if republicans lose big in tomorrow’s election, as most pollsters say they will? What should they do, in fact, if republicans manage to maintain a majority in both houses against all odds and predictions?

The answers are: the republican party is not the kingdom of God. And the things Christians care most about are not within the power of any political party to deliver. These include the salvation of souls, which is the exclusive work of God, himself, and the discipleship of new believers which is our job as believers, under the inspiration, instruction and guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Abortion? Affiliate with a pregnancy help center in your area and save babies today without waiting for courts or politicians. Same-sex marriage? Vote on the issue in those states that have it on the ballot, but strengthen your own opposite sex marriage and make a contribution to culture. Bad movies? Support those who make good ones. Lousy TV? Don’t watch it. Read books and talk to your children and grandchildren.

Put not your trust in princes and kings… and that includes politicians.
