What Comes Next in Egypt?

The Morsi/Muslim Brotherhood/Islamist government of Egypt has fallen. The attempt to impose extreme religious law on one of the oldest cultures in the world has failed. Or has it?

What comes next? The Obama administration is only "deeply concerned" about what's going on in Cairo. The U.S. ambassador to Egypt has been a dismal failure. The anti-Obama protest signs are remarkable for their virulent hatred of the president who backed the revolution and ouster of Hosni Mubarak that brought the Muslim Brotherhood candidate to power for the first time in the Middle East.

Nevertheless, the anti-Jewish, anti-Christian mentality remains strong in Egypt. How the military will handle the rise to the presidency of someone favorable to them and the tens of thousands of demonstrators remains an open question. Where is American leadership in all this? There appears to be non. The president is too busy with an unnecessary and expensive trip to Africa and fundraisers.

I'm Cal Thomas.
