We Have to Wake Up to Iran

July 14, 2008

Iran has fired nine missiles – or seven if you accept the American count. Iran says more are ready for launch. Some are thought to have enough long-range capabilities to reach Israel, Europe and even the U.S. if launched from a barge off one of our coasts.

Maybe this will awaken Europeans from their slumber and cause Polish public opinion to sway in favor of an anti-missile defense system, which won top level approval in a deal signed between Polish and U.S. officials last week.

Here is something you must keep in mind. Whoever the next president is, he won’t be able to end this war, except through victory. Comments by Barack Obama that he will end the war in Iraq by pulling out U.S. troops – though he has hedged on that in recent days, infuriating the left – are ludicrous.

The Islamicists aren’t talking about ending the war. They are out to win it. They are increasingly infiltrating Britain and the rest of Europe and the United States in ways that have worked for them over the centuries. While we abort babies, they multiply. While we become more secular, they become more religious. While we retreat, they advance.

We had better wake up, or we will be put to sleep permanently.
