Time to Drain the Swamp

March 9, 2010

In my newspaper column today I am again raising an issue that ought to be of concern to all Americans, regardless of party. Speaker Nancy Pelosi promised that if Democrats took control of Congress she would see to it that Democrats would "drain the swamp." Instead, they are behaving more like the swamp is a hot tub.

Harlem Congressman Charlie Rangel has been forced to step aside as chairman of the Ways and Means Committee for ethical lapses, many more of which will soon come to light. Rep. Eric Massa of New York is quitting after he admitted to sexually harassing a staff member. Governor David Paterson of New York is in trouble for allegedly intervening in a case involving a top aide and his alleged abuse of his wife.

The problem with these and other Democrats and too many Republicans is they think of themselves as entitled to office and all the perks that come with it. They serve the people less than themselves. Voters should turn whoever is in power out of power until first one, then the other party starts to get it. We are tired of their taxing, spending and hubris. And we can do something about it…and should.
