The True Colors of Hamas

February 28, 2006

It didn’t take long after the Hamas victory in the Palestinian election for them to reveal their true intentions. Did anyone doubt them?

According to a Hamas deputy in the new government now taking shape, Hamas will work to “Islamize” the penal code and impose the penalties prescribed in Sharia law for murder, theft, adultery and selling or consuming alcoholic beverages.

For anyone who has not been paying attention, Sharia law is nasty stuff. It can get your hands or head cut-off. It can lead to stoning and beatings, especially of women who are accused of adultery. Accused, not proved guilty.

The self-deluded, including many in the state department, continue to believe the fairy tale that these people and others like them throughout the Islamic world can be made to behave reasonably, according to our standards. Only fools believe that, but apparently there are a lot of them in Western governments, including our own.

Watch for all of this to get worse as we encourage our enemies by insufficiently fighting them.
