Scandal And Personal Attack

November 23, 2004

The liberal battle plan against President Bush is now clear.

The left hopes to bring him down or make him ineffective either through scandal, or denunciation.

Bill Moyers, Eleanor Clift and Helen Thomas are among the journalistic shock troops.

Each denounced the president and/or Condolezza Rice as liars, incompetent and worse.

Andy Rooney of 60 Minutes equated Christian faith with ignorance in a speech at Tufts University.

Walter Conkite is still spouting the view that the pre-election Osama Bin Laden tape was concocted by Karl Rove to help the president get re-elected.

You'll notice in all of these incendiary comments that there is nothing about policy.

That's because the left has lost the policy debate and they know it.

The claim their message didn't get through, mostly because of Fox News.

It did get through and it was rejected by a majority of voters.

So this is the game plan for the left - don't change your losing position, but try to taint the president through scandal and personal attack.

Let them run on that agenda in four years.

I'm Cal Thomas in Washington.
