Responding to Commerce Secretary John Bryson's Accident

Secretary of Commerce John Bryson was involved in accident -- several accidents, really -- last Saturday in California. After the last one, Bryson was found unconscious in his car. Police say no drugs or alcohol appeared to have been involved. Bryson was charged with felony hit and run.

It's easy for political people to jump to conclusions and conclude the worst. I have known people who had medical incidents caused by hypoglycemia -- low blood sugar -- or even tumors, so let's not jump to conclusions until all the facts are in. His office said Bryson suffered a seizure.

Local police in several jurisdictions say they won't make a decision on whether to prosecute Bryson until the results of medical and toxicology tests have been concluded.

The knee-jerk response from conservatives might be to rejoice that the Obama administration has another problem, perhaps even a scandal, on its hands. The response from Christians should be to pray for Secretary Bryson and his family.

I'm Cal Thomas in Washington.
