The Reasons for the Riots

The Reasons for the Riots

Washington Post columnist Anne Applebaum writes that “nobody knows” what caused the riots throughout England. Really? Maybe Ms. Applebaum should read what Max Hastings wrote in the London Daily Mail: “Years of liberal dogma have spawned a generation of amoral, uneducated, welfare dependent, brutalized youngsters.”

Here’s more:

“At the bottom of our society is a layer of young people with no skills, no education, values or aspirations. They do not have what most of us would call ‘lives:’ they simply exist. Nobody has ever dared suggest to them that they need feel allegiance to anything, least of all Britain or their community.

“Not only do they know nothing of Britain’s past, they care nothing about its present. They have their being only in video games and street-fights, casual drug use and crime. … The notions of doing a 9-to-5 job, marrying, sticking with a wife and kids, or learning to read properly, are beyond their imaginations.”

No one knows the reasons for the rioting? Sure we do.
