Questionable Motives

March 12, 2007

One has to wonder about the motives of at least one of the jurors in the Scooter Libby trial. Dennis Collins is a former Washington Post reporter, who worked with Bob Woodward and was a neighbor of Tim Russert. Within minutes of the verdict, Collins had a commentary posted on the far-left Huffington Post website. He also said he would write a book about the Vice President’s chief of staff who was convicted on multiple felony counts last week in a case that could only happen inside the beltway.

People close to Libby’s side say the jury pool was packed with far left people, including those from moveon.org. They say this was the best jury they could get since defense attorneys had used up their allowed strikes, or objections.

There’s more that gives one pause about the intentions of Collins. John Tienry of the New York Times came to Collins’ wedding. He went to grade school with the Times’ Maureen Down. There’s plenty more about his associations with far-left liberal media institutions on the Editor and Publisher web site. This ought to be grounds for a new trial. It would be if a liberal had been convicted.
