Why Put God Back in the Democrat Platform?

It may have been the only unscripted moment of the Democratic National Convention. The platform had left out any mention of God and Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. So the Obama team called for a floor vote to amend the platform. The rules say a two-thirds majority is required. There were three audible votes. None reached the two-thirds level, but the presider declared they had and slammed the gavel down.

Clearly the Democrats were embarrassed, but it doesn't really matter. Do you think God is impressed by a political platform that includes abortion-on-demand and same-sex marriage, not to mention debt as far as the eye can see? Not having God in this platform would have been fine with me.

And while I'm on the subject, could we ask politicians to stop ending their speeches with "God bless you and God bless America"? Again, it's meaningless. Why should God bless America when we are so clearly out of His will? What's wrong with "Thank you for listening and good night"?

So, thank you for listening and goodbye from Charlotte, N.C. I'm Cal Thomas.
