Politics is the God of Democratic Leadership

Watching the funeral service for the late Senator Paul Wellstone reminded me of the religion of the Democratic Party. That religion, that god, is politics.

The so-called service was a campaign rally. There was no traditional Jewish service. In fact, somebody sang "amazing grace," which is about the grace of God in Jesus Christ.

It was the ultimate in crass exploitation of a dead man for partisan political advantage. It should have disgusted every American, regardless of political party affiliation or persuasion.

The liberal Democrats who lead the once great Democratic Party now worship politics and worldly power. Politics is their deity. Lawsuits are their liturgies. Indeed, lawyers have fanned out all over the nation and have vowed to sue if the elections don’t go their way.

This is pathetic and its ugliness ought to turn off every one of us. Paul Wellstone was exploited and all the party cared about was how they could spin his death to their own advantage.

Voters in Minnesota and around the country should remember this disgraceful sham tomorrow and vote accordingly.

I’m Cal Thomas in Washington.
