Playing 'Hide the Weapons' with Hussein

Okay, the United Nations inspectors are finally in Iraq. So what?

Iraq has had more than a decade since the end of the Gulf War, and several years since the last inspectors were kicked out, to hide their weapons of mass destruction.

There have been several press reports about Saddam Hussein exporting chemical and biological weapons – along with plants to produce them-- to friendly terrorist countries like Libya. Does anyone seriously believe anything will be found that will incriminate Saddam Hussein?

It is like the termite inspector who comes to your house, opens the door and shouts "any termites in there"? Hearing no answer, he then concludes that there aren’t any.

We know Saddam Hussein has weapons of mass destruction, not only because he has used them before, but because of the type of person he is. He is evil and evil people do evil things.

It does not help when we seek to play by humanitarian and legal rules while a dictator like this plays by no rules, except his own.

Let’s keep all of this in mind as we watch the silly scenario of weapons inspectors declaring that Saddam is clean.

I’m Cal Thomas in Washington.
