As I watch and listen to the debate in Massachusetts and elsewhere about same-sex marriage, I marvel at how quickly a society that has forgotten God can unravel.
The Massachusetts legislature has given initial approval to civil unions for same-sex couples. They would have all of the benefits heterosexual married couples enjoy, but not the name “marriage.”
Both sides are upset about this. The pro-gay marriage forces want the respect that comes with marriage. The anti-civil union forces say such an arrangement mocks marriage.
When a nation no longer looks to God for direction, this sort of debate is the result. Gay marriage? No problem. Ordaining lesbians? Nothing wrong with that. Adoption by same sex couples? Ok by government. Is there any standard anymore? Nope.
The New York Times magazine ran a story a couple of weeks ago about transgender rights. They’re next on the cultural radar screen.
God made men and women for each other and sexual expression for marriage. People believe whatever their itching ears want to hear.
