New Year, Same Islamist Violence

It's a new year, but some things remain the same. Take Islamists for example.

In Nigeria, Islamic extremists slaughtered 15 Christians. It's not the first time. More than 100 Christians in Nigeria have been killed in recent months by the extremist group. The BBC typically calls them militants.

In Syria, members of the rebel group supported by the U.S. have murdered a Christian pastor, his wife and three children. Christian Aid just heard about the incident in October and is reporting it only now.

Forget all the talk about how the extremists in Islam are a minority in a peaceful religion. Even if that were true -- and it isn't -- they've got the bombs, knives and guns, and if you and I are their target, it doesn't matter how many of them there are, right?

The West refuses to wake up to the threat confronting us. We think that by saying nice words and taking more of them into our countries they will be won over by our tolerance and religious pluralism. That's not working out as advertised. A wise people would change strategy.

I'm Cal Thomas.
