The press hardly ever mentions that Christians are deliberately targeted by Muslim extremists around the world.
It isn’t because they are westerners or Americans that they are being targeted. It is because they are Christians. Their killers say so, but the American press mostly refuses to report it.
As the Weekly Standard notes in its November 11 issue, while the press reported that the six killed and 143 wounded in an attack in the Philippines October 17, few conveyed to the reader that these were people assaulted by Muslim extremists because of their faith.
The same is true of the murder of seven Christian Pakistanis who were shot execution-style on September 25.
Why is this? Part of it is because the Bush administration has tactical reasons for making a distinction between Islam and extremists. But part is also the prejudice much of the press has towards Christians.
If Christians targeted Muslims, it would be news. Otherwise, it’s business as usual.
