Leadership, Resolve Vital Weapons in This War

So, what do we do now? President Bush has rightly condemned the terrorist attacks as evil. Arrests are already being made. But what we need to do is to restructure our lax security and intelligence agencies that have been weakened by years of neglect and opposition. That neglect and opposition has come from a media that thinks spying is nasty and by certain politicians who believe that America's enemies can be made to behave if we just try to understand them.

Too bad that we have to re-learn these lessons. Pan-Am 103 over Lockerbie wasn't enough. The Marine barracks in Lebanon wasn't enough. Numerous other terrorist acts committed in the name of Allah aren't enough. When are we going to get serious about fighting an enemy that hates us and our way of life?

It had better be now. More than money, it takes leadership and resolve. These people don't care about dying or imprisonment. They see that as martyrdom. So let's make them martyrs, taking them out before they hit us. That used to be called self-defense. It should be again.
